  Hardcopy includes Erratum (10/99). This standard covers 3- to 48-in. (75- to
1200-mm) gray-iron and/or ductile-iron fittings to be used with ductile-iron pipe for water and other liquids.
Requirements for fittings with mechanical joints and flanged joints are listed in Tables 10.1-10.20 at the end of this
standard. This standard may also be used for fittings with push-on joints or such other joints as may be agreed on at
the time of purchase. For the 3- to 24-in. (75- to 600-mm) size range, ductile-iron mechanical-joint fittings and
ductile-iron push-on-joint fittings are rated for 350 psi (2413 kPa) working pressure; ductile-iron flange-joint
fittings are rated for 250 psi (1724 kPa) working pressure; and gray-iron fittings having all types of joints covered by
this standard are rated for 150 or 250 psi (1034 or 1724 kPa) working pressures, as shown in the tables. For the 30- to
48-in. (750- to 1200-mm) size range, fittings with all types of joints covered by this standard are shown in the tables
as gray iron and/or ductile iron for rated working pressures of 150 or 250 psi (1034 or 1724 kPa), as shown in the
tables. The major revisions from the 1987 edition included in this edition of the standard are as follows: Added Sec. VI
in the foreword, Acceptance, regarding health-effects regulations; Added Sec. 10.4, Permeation; Revised Figure 10.1 and
Table 10.1 on Mechanical Joint Dimensions; Revised appendix A, Flanged Fittings--Bolts, Gaskets, and Installation,
adding a precautionary note to Sec. A.2 regarding use of flange gaskets thinner than 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) or manufactured
from material other than rubber; Revised Sec. A.3(b) to add flanged-joint bolt-tightening sequence; Added Sec. A.3(d) on
ring gaskets; and Added MJ threaded bell fitting detail to appendix B.
