SoundsFor me, no-one does house drums like Eric Kupper. Drums aren’t all he’s good at, of course:
“Additional production and keyboards: Eric Kupper” is a credit that’s appeared on records by the
likes of Celine Dion,Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Depeche Mode, Bjørk, even Coldplay, and he’s remixed
everyone from Korn to Curtis Mayfield, via New Order, Alicia Keys, Goldfrapp and Sheryl Crow.
  
  But back in
the 90s, it was those super-crisp beats that made me buy anything I saw with Mr K’s name on it. One fine day,
someone will put together the definitive Kupper collection. Until then, we have this 20-track compilation of his work
for King Street Sounds – both original Kupper productions (mostly under his K-Scope guise, taken from 2009 album
Electrikiss) and remixes for the likes of Ananda Project, Peyton, Joi Cardwell, Kathy Brown and Urban Soul. Given that
the tracks here span 20 years and a range of styles, as a collection it’s a little variable – some of the
early 00s soulful house tracks, in particular, haven’t aged brilliantly.
  
  But when it’s
good, it’s very good indeed – the dubbed-out deep house of the K-Scope tracks in particular. And it
always, of course, comes underpinned by beats so sharp you could cut yourself…
