Paco P was quite
the firebrand when he burst on to the scene in the late '60's. You will hear the power and aggression
in his rasgueados. You will hear the earthy tone of his Gerundino guitar.
The pieces themselves are catchy and
thematic, and so this album can be enjoyed by a very wide audience. Track 1 is particularly memorable. 

His
unique touch, strong golpe, and exciting sound are only marred in this recording (quadraphonic for those that still have
decoders), by the poor microphone technique which has the mic on a boom stand on a reverberant wooden floor. So you can
hear Paco's each and every foot thump - and there are many - which for some makes a distraction to the music.
Others will perhaps like it, imparting a feeling of energy, or rhythmic emphasis at points where PP obviously wishes to
place emphasis.

Nevertheless, it is a great flamenco album, and Paco Peña was, and still is a maestro of
the highest order. And at 25th, this is the highest placed flamenco LP in my countdown.
