When the pedantic erudite Democrat Josiah "Jed" Bartlet is elected US president, 

he installs his administration, including a number of people in the White House, 

mainly confidants in his electoral campaigns, whose role in the Washington power 

game -including the chief of staff and his deputy, spokeswoman, speech-writer 

and lower secretaries- and what passes for personal lives -also involving other 

regular characters such as the presidents wife and personal servant- make this 

series, which supposedly follows the political events -often paraphrasing 

historical reality- almost day by day, more then a political soap as the demands 

of office on each of them in terms of personal sacrifice and compromising on 

ideals and principles for tactical necessity allow some insights in many aspects 

of US society and international politics.

SERIES CREATED & WRITTEN BY:

Aaron Sorkin is credited with writing all 155 episodes spanning the years 

between 1999-2006.  The series itself is based on the first draft of his 

award-winning Broadway play, "The American President".  The play was so 

interesting and well-written, he was afforded the chance to adapt it into a 

screenplay, which became the film, "The American President" starring Michael 

Douglass and Annette Benning.



But Sorkin still felt he had missed out on his original draft for the play which 

focused less on the life of the President, and more on the lives of his 

overworked, underpaid, severely civic-minded, and hopelessly dedicated staff.  

Working for the President of the United States of America has been described as 

a prison sentence of 4-8 years.  Only instead of being locked up in a 10 by 10 

foot cell, they will live in much tinier cubicles, working harder than they ever 

will for the rest of their lives, shortening their lives with sleep-deprivation 

and stress.



And they do this by choice.  For those who have never seen an episode of The 

West Wing, or have only seen a few and never really followed what was happening 

... here is your chance to start from the beginning!

Bartlet?  To the Season Finale with an ending that can only be described with
